New Opportunities, Challenges and Donations Ahead
Just like the first settlers, the Partnership's Board of Trustees is actively engaged in continually improving conditions at Grafton.
Restoring the Russell home is priority number one followed by a subtle but long-lasting restoration of Grafton's picturesque cemetery. The Bureau of Land Management, which administers the property on which the cemetery sits, is cooperating with this effort.
Appropriate interpretive signage will eventually be placed within the townsite.
The Partnership hired a historian to compile a nomination of the Grafton Historic District for the National Register of Historic Places. The nomination is now complete and will soon be submitted.
The Partnership is preparing to offer a special opportunity to a retired couple
with their own self-contained recreation vehicle. In exchange for offering
basic interpretive services to visitors and a watchful eye on the historic
buildings, the couple will be welcome to park their RV in a secluded location
in Grafton. Please contact the Partnership if you or someone you know is interested,
but remember that Grafton lacks utilities.
We realize that the future holds many challenges, but with your help we know that they will be manageable.
